William F. Cruger, Jr.
Mr. Cruger served as a director of People’s United from 2014 until April 2022, when he joined the M&T Board upon the closing of M&T’s acquisition of People’s United. Mr. Cruger served as Vice Chairman of Investment Banking at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., a leading global financial services firm, until August 2013. His responsibilities included senior client relationship management and transaction leadership with a primary focus on financial institutions, among other sectors. He was Managing Director, Financial Institutions Group at J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. from 1996 until 2011 when he was elevated to the position of Vice Chairman. Mr. Cruger also ran the firm’s investment banking practices in Japan from 1991 to 1996, in Latin America from 1989 to 1991, and in Emerging Asia from 1984 to 1988. He is a director of MarketAxess Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: MKTX), serving as Chair of the Nominating and Governance Committee and a member of the Audit and Finance Committees, and of Virtu Financial, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIRT), serving as Chair of the Audit Committee and a member of the Risk Committee. Mr. Cruger has also previously served as a director of Archipelago, Capital IQ and Credittrade.
