John P. Barnes
Former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, People’s United Financial, Inc.
Mr. Barnes is the former Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of People’s United Financial, Inc. (“People’s United”). He served as Chief Executive Officer of People’s United from July 2010 until April 2022, when he joined the M&T Board upon the closing of M&T’s acquisition of People’s United. He also previously served as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of People’s United following its acquisition of Chittenden Corporation in early 2008. He previously served as an Executive Vice President and in multiple other positions at Chittenden Corporation, including heading the Credit Policy and Administration Division.
